Star Chime
Star Chime is a fictional mobile app that lets users set ambient alerts for cosmic events. Think Mercury retrograde, moon phases, Pluto Time, and more. It began as a playful exercise in aesthetic UX but evolved into an exploration of how simple-seeming features can still demand thoughtful, scalable interaction design.Star Chime lets users toggle preset cosmic event alarms, like retrogrades and moon phases, with customizable parameters.
My Role
- Concept, UX Design, Visual Design
- Tools: Figma, Procreate
- Solo project
- Timeline: ~2 weeks of iterative exploration
Aproach
-
My goal was to create an experience that felt light, enchanted, and calm, but wouldn’t collapse under the weight of growing complexity.
-
Even in a fictional app, I wanted to ask: How do we offer customization without chaos? How can we design intuitive paths for layered inputs without overwhelming users?
Focus
-
Progressive disclosure: Alarms appear simple (toggle-based), but open into configurable parameters when needed.
-
Pattern-based inputs: Each cosmic event required a slightly different setup, so I created a flexible, repeatable form system that supported variability without reinventing the wheel.
-
Mood-rich UI: The interface leans into a retro-futurist aesthetic. Soft gradients, subtle motion, and glowy typography — to echo the “chime” feeling.
